Maroochy River Golf Club is the Sunshine Coast?s most prestige links golf course. Designed by Graham Marsh, the 18-hole par 72 layout is unique in that it is basically a links-style course, with wide fairways, few trees and lots of strategically placed bunkers. What makes it challenging is the water, which is a feature of almost every hole, and the wind. It?s a rare day that the wind does not affect play, but one important benefit is that it keeps golfers cool in even the warmest weather.

Playing Tips

1
Par 5, Length 518m

The first hole is a challenging par 5 with water left and bunkers right off the tee. It requires a smart tee shot and then a correct lay up 2nd shot to avoid the water that protects the green. This is a classic risk reward hole with the long hitters offered a small chance at glory in taking the hole on in 2 shots.

2
Par 3, Length 158m

A picturesque par 3 with a large bunker protecting the front of the green. The flag position determines the difficulty of this par 3 with a large wide green, be careful as the green is narrow in depth with a bunker catching balls that go too long.

3
Par 5, Length 481m

A strong par 5 that plays into the North Easterly sea breeze on most afternoons. Bunkers are visible from the tee so a nice tee shot is required followed by an accurate 2nd shot as water cuts into the fairway up the left side of this hole.

4
Par 4, Length 343m

Risk reward on offer here with a short par 4 using the driver here can reward players with a short chip or pitch to the green but bunkers on both sides of the fairway await a mis hit drive. The second shot is important to keep to the right side of the green as a steep embankment awaits a ball rolling off to the left.

5
Par 5, Length 498m

This par 5 rewards the straight hitter with the hole guarded by 5 fairway bunkers accuracy is the key. When arriving at the green players are faced with a ridge than runs through the middle of the green which makes reading your putt that much more difficult.

6
Par 3, Length 122m

The shortest hole on the course but well protected by bunkers surrounding the entire green. This hole requires and accurate tee shot to give you a birdie chance.

7
Par 4, Length 336m

This dogleg par 4 is a challenging hole without water. Bunkers to the right guard the fairway and overhanging trees to the left, so a good tee shot is required.

8
Par 3, Length 189m

A demanding Par 3 with a large green. If you keep to the right side of the green you can be rewarded with a par.

9
Par 4, Length 354m

The 9th hole starts the run of 7 holes that all have water guarding the fairway, green or both. A well-placed tee shot is required in the fairway keeping away from the water that cuts in from the right side.

10
Par 4, Length 365m

The 10th hole is a great par 4 with bunkers and water surrounding the fairway. The undulating fairway makes for a tricky approach with the hollow to the left of the green, bunker to the back and bunker right waiting for the offline approach.

11
Par 3, Length 160m

The signature par 3 on the course that requires pin point accuracy. Water tightly protects the front and right of the green and grass hollows to the left don?t make a up and down 3 an easy task.

12
Par 5, Length 478m

A blind tee shot awaits players on this par 5. The best line is just right of centre as for the long players will be able to reach this hole is 2 shots. The fairway slightly doglegs to the right with water protecting players who hit to the left of the fairway. An accurate approach shot is important as the green is protected by bunkers.

13
Par 4, Length 356m

A dogleg left par 4 with water to the left and a bunker both protect this fairway. A solid tee shot is important here as approaching this 2 tiered green club selection is very important.

14
Par 3, Length 180m

A great par 3 with again water protecting the green. This time it?s to the left. The safe side is to aim at the right side off the green to give you the best chance for par.

15
Par 5, Length 529m

This par 5 can trick players that have not played the course before as the water cuts across the fairway catching out the long hitters. With this water in play 3 wood off the tee is advised and the hole to be played as a 3 shot par 5.

16
Par 4, Length 324m

A dogleg left par 4 see?s length off the tee not paramount but accuracy the key to this hole. It is best to play just short of the fairway bunkers on the right side of the dog leg and this will leave you with 100m the this elevated green that requires a pin point approach.

17
Par 4, Length 361m

Slight dog leg right par 4 with a uphill second shot. This hole has the ability to be tough without looking tough. After a tee shot in the fairway you will need one extra club to approach the up hill green ensuring you navigate around the deep greenside bunker.

18
Par 4, Length 385m

The signature hole of the course this is a great par 4 with a real risk reward option for your tee shot. The water lines the left side of the fairway with bunkers protecting the right side. The tee shot is demanding and then approach must not flirt with the water to the left of the green. This is a fun finishing hole to any course.

Playing Tips

1
Par 4, Length 502m

This is a tough opening hole and the longest hole on the course. A birdie is difficult, with a very difficult green. A bump and run approach will give the shortest possible birdie putt.

2
Par 3, Length 166m

All the trouble on this par 3 is on the right side. A safer approach is from the left side this will offer an easier chip and putt.

3
Par 4, Length 398m

A long par 4 with a difficult approach and a par on this hole will be harder than it looks and well earned.

4
Par 5, Length 472m

A genuine par 5 where you must keep the ball in the fairway. Longer hitters will attempt to reach the green in two but the bunkers will catch the wayward shots.

5
Par 4, Length 324m

This short hole looks easy but has a difficult element in the green's slope. Undulations and slopes make approaching this green difficult.

6
Par 4, Length 310m

Another short hole with the water starting to come in to play on the left side of the fairway. Once in the fairway a deceptive approach shot makes for a well earned par.

7
Par 3, Length 150m

A picturesque par 3 where club selection is paramount. If you do not land on the green with your tee shot, your short game will be tested here.

8
Par 4, Length 379m

The signature hole on the course with the green design in line with the "road hole" at the famous St Andrews. The water on the right is very intimidating and should be steered away from.

9
Par 4, Length 388m

A long par 4 with bunkers and mounds guarding wayward tee shots both left and right. A green with a large area on the left side to play to for safety.

10
Par 4, Length 337m

No need for length off the tee on this hole but watch the slightly raised green to catch your approach shot. A real birdie chance!

11
Par 3, Length 169m

All the trouble on this par 3 is short, with the green elevated at the front. A shot falling short will test anyone's short game. The wind will also be a deciding factor in club selection.

12
Par 4, Length 325m

Try to stay out of the bunkers on this hole, as there are 10 in total. A short par 4 but you will need to be on the fairway to par this hole.

13
Par 4, Length 365m

A strong par 4 that dogleg's to the left and with water on the left hand side as well, it will need to be kept away from. The green has several levels and you will need to be on the right level to make a par on this hole.

14
Par 5, Length 495m

The wind on this par 5 will determine how difficult this hole plays. Beware of the blind fairway bunkers near the green. A real birdie chance!

15
Par 4, Length 362m

A fairway that looks inviting to a big drive, but needs to be kept in the fairway to get the best approach into a narrow but long green.

16
Par 4, Length 377m

A hazard and bunkers on the right side catches any wayward tee shots. This green has a distinct tier in it so putting will be difficult if you are on the wrong level.

17
Par 3, Length 202m

The toughest par 3 on the course and in certain wind conditions may need your strongest drive. An area short left may give you an easier chip and putt. A par here and you will have hit 3 good shots.

18
Par 5, Length 462m

A par 5 where the more aggressive player may reach it in two shots and set up a birdie. Avoid the bunkers off the tee and also near the green and you will be in a good position to par this finishing hole.
